Compact Ultrawideband Rectifier Using a Simple Impedance Compression Network

This letter presents a compact ultrawideband rectifier using a simple impedance compression network (ICN) for wireless power transfer (WPT) systems. The rectifier composes of a short-ended stub and two subrectifiers configured in a voltage-doubling typology. The designed ICN is derived from closed-form equations. Compared with existing broadband rectifiers, this design requires only a short-ended stub to achieve ultrawideband performance. The proposed rectifier is compact, with dimensions of $14\times 12$ mm, and has been fabricated and experimentally validated. It operates over a broadband range of 1–3.3 GHz, achieving a power conversion efficiency (PCE) exceeding 50%, a fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 107%, and an absolute bandwidth (ABW) of 2.3 GHz. At 2 GHz, the peak PCE reaches 73% with an input power of 20 dBm. The design introduces a novel approach for achieving compact size and broadband operation in rectifiers.
