Comparative Study of Two Analytical Methods for Computing the Mutual Inductance Matrix in Induction Machines

Induction machines (IMs) constitute essential elements in industrial systems, where their operational failures can induce substantial economic losses. Condition-based maintenance systems (CBM) rely on early fault detection through continuous condition monitoring, requiring rapid and accurate modeling of faulty IM behavior. This study conducts a comparative evaluation of two analytical methodologies for the computation of IM coupling parameters: discrete circular convolution employing the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), and winding tensor algebra. Although both methods yield equivalent quantitative results, their fundamentally different computational paradigms present distinct advantages in terms of implementation efficiency and diagnostic resolution.
