A Modal Dissipating Energy Flow Analysis Method for Identifying the Hybrid Oscillation Sources in Power Systems

In this letter, a novel modal dissipating energy flow (MDEF) method is proposed for identifying hybrid oscillation sources in power systems. First, an equivalent linear model of the original nonlinear system is constructed from measurement data using the Koopman operator theory. Modal analysis is then conducted on this model to identify the critical oscillation modes and to decompose the measurements of each device into distinct modal components. Based on these components, the dissipating energy contribution of each device to each critical mode is quantitatively computed, which enables the accurate identification of different oscillation sources. A case study on modified benchmark systems validated the effectiveness of the proposed MDEF method.
