Development of Discrete-Time Steady-State Kalman Filter Based Controllers for DC-DC Converters

Measurement noise can disrupt a controller's ability to regulate output voltage in a power electronic converter. A discrete-time Kalman filter (DTKF) is used to mitigate this noise but it is computationally expensive. To reduce computational complexity, this paper utilizes a steady-state DTKF (DTSSKF) in a full-state feedback-controlled DC-DC synchronous buck converter. DTSSKF enhances inductor current and capacitor voltage regulation while achieving performance comparable to DTKF. Via simulations, introducing the DTKF reduces the regulated voltage variance by at least 95%, while the DTSSKF delivers nearly identical performance at a lower computational cost.
