STC-DAB Converter Integrated Solar PV Off Board Charger for Electric Vehicles with Power Quality Improvement

This work addresses power quality challenges associated with grid-integrated renewable energy-based charging systems by employing a photovoltaic (PV) enabled offboard EV battery charging solution attached by a voltage source converter (VSC). The VSC utilizes a Champernowne Function (CMF) based Robust control technique, which accurately tracks the fundamental component of the current load and adapts recursively. The CMF method demonstrates superior robustness to impulsive disturbances at the error detection node over extended durations, outperforming traditional sparsity-aware robust algorithms. A distinctive Scott transformer-based highfrequency dual active bridge (STC-DAB) converter is integrated for efficient battery charging and discharging, employing a single-phase shift (SPS) modulation scheme to optimize energy transfer. The performance of the developed system is verified using simulation and experimental results, demonstrating stable performance under varying empirical environments, like dynamic changes in solar PV insolation. The system also operates in a distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) mode to maintain grid power quality, achieving low total harmonic distortion (THD) in grid currents. This demonstrates the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed solution in mitigating power quality issues and enhancing the integration of renewable energy sources.
