Multispectral Fusion of Long-Wave and Mid-Wave Infrared Images Using Discrete Wavelet Transform

Image fusion has been greatly utilized as a pivotal processing tool in various image related applications. Here, we used multiple Infrared (IR) camera sensors, such as mid-wave infrared (MWIR) and long-wave infrared (LWIR), to capture images. Fusing both these images provides better and accurate scene information. The major application areas where this fused image has been mostly used are military, surveillance, and remote sensing. While existing research employs Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) for comparative analysis between visible and IR imagery, this study deviates by focusing exclusively on the comparative analysis of images captured by two distinct IR cameras, yielding enhanced output characteristics. Thus, our proposed method has shown improved results in a subjective manner and objectively than similar existing techniques.
