Research on Energy Saving Platoon Control of Intelligent Electric Vehicles with mismatched disturbances

The energy consumption of intelligent electric vehicles (IEVs) can be effectively reduced through platoon control. However, the control performance and energy consumption of IEVs platoon are easily influenced by the disturbances and spacing strategy during driving. Hence, this paper proposes a constant time headway (CTH) spacing strategy that employs the velocity ratio of adjacent vehicles to describe the relative changes, and considers the acceleration of front vehicle, thereby ensuring that the overall air resistance of IEVs platoon remains relatively low at all times. A novel controller is proposed to help IEVs platoon maintains proposed CTH strategy under disturbances. Numerical simulation results show that the velocity tracking error and acceleration fluctuation of IEVs is reduced in complex traffic environments, and IEVs platoon can always achieve energy-saving cruising.
