Intelligent test program evaluation

An approach for the evaluation, verification, and validation of integrated family test equipment (IFTE) test program sets (TPS) using knowledge-based system technology has been developed for the US Army ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ. The authors examine the TPS acceptance problem, which the expert system for TPS quality assurance (ESQA) was intended to solve, and how the system addresses various aspects of this problem. This includes determination of the completeness and correctness of the test program in relation to the characteristics and test requirements of the unit under test. The functional characteristics of ESQA and the operation of the system in the performance of a TPS review are described. The authors also discuss the anticipated technical and management benefits associated with using such an approach to assist in TPS analysis, review, and acceptance. Possible future applications of the system are also considered.<
