SBA-Driven RAN Exposure Architecture for 6G and Ecosystem Integration

To enable RAN capability exposure in 6G, this paper introduces RAN exposure function (REF) that facilitates secure and controlled access to radio access network (RAN) services and resources for external entities. Three novel service-based architecture (SBA)-driven RAN capability exposure architectures are proposed, and an analysis of their respective advantages and limitations is also presented. Furthermore, this work establishes an integrated RAN capability exposure ecosystem by integrating existing frameworks, including the common API framework (CAPIF), service enabler architecture layer (SEAL), and common API for mobile applications and services (CAMARA). This research advances the vision of open, service-oriented 6G networks, thereby laying a foundation for commercialization, ecosystem growth, and future-proof RAN capability exposure architectures.
