Monitoring Of Vertical Object Status By Tilt Angle Sensing

Hong Kong is a densely populated city where many vertical objects such as lamp posts and road signs have been installed. These objects may topple due to different reasons such as heavy rain or typhoon or simply lack of maintenance and they may pose dangers to pedestrians. Inspired by this real-world need, we collaborated with a local university in Hong Kong to develop a tilt angle detection mechanism which measures tilt angle of objects that are installed vertically on the ground. Our collaborator has previously developed a similar monitoring system for trees, which has been proven very useful especially during adverse weather conditions.
