Research on Light Pollution Level Assessment Model Using ArcGIS Software

This paper presents a comprehensive approach to assessing light pollution levels in different regions. We integrate two mainstream measures, the Grading Scale for Different Levels of Light Pollution and the Bortle Dark-Sky Scale, to construct a new standard for evaluating light pollution. We develop secondary criteria to account for varying levels of sensitivity to light among different organisms. Furthermore, we process satellite imagery using ArcGIS software to convert grayscale values into radiance brightness values, allowing for accurate comparison of light pollution indices across regions. Our model, validated using data from various sources, highlights the severity of light pollution in peri-urban areas, attributed to economic and regional development. The proposed method not only allows for the quantitative evaluation of light pollution levels but also facilitates spatially explicit analysis, providing a foundation for informed decision-making in urban.
