To Study the Impact of Rooftop Solar-Powered EV Charging Stations on Distribution Network Efficiency: Challenges and Solutions

Electric vehicles (EVs) have become popular due to decarbonization, digitalization, and sustainable development. Adopting modern technologies and infrastructure to reduce energy losses is becoming increasingly important. The rise of EVs and renewable energy sources (RES), such as rooftop solar systems, presents opportunities and challenges for distribution networks. This study examines how rooftop solar-powered EV charging stations affect the power quality and efficiency of distribution networks. The study also addresses critical issues, such as harmonic mitigation, current balancing, power factor improvement, and voltage fluctuations. These issues can affect grid reliability, stability, and efficiency. To mitigate these issues, this study proposes centralized battery management systems (CBMS) strategies for peak load reduction to balance energy supply and demand, highlighting the role of ESS) in renewable energy integration and optimization of power system operations. This research identifies the importance of CBMS, smart charging infrastructure, and power quality improvement for reducing energy losses and improving grid stability using MATLAB Simulink simulation and modelling. The survey identifies gaps in current research, such as the need for dynamic analysis of EV impacts and integrating battery-to-grid (B2G) technologies validations to improve the reliability and efficiency of solar-powered EV charging stations in distribution networks.
