Efficient Offshore Wind Farm Cabling Using Constraint K-Mean Algorithm

This study presents an integrated framework to optimize the cable layout of the Borssele I Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) by combining Constraint K-Means clustering, Ring Topology, and ($\mathrm{N}-1$) contingency analysis. The proposed method addresses the absence of specific guidelines for determining the number of clusters in traditional approaches by considering submarine cable ratings to define optimal cluster sizes. By evaluating transmission network performance—including power flow, cable ratings, and resilience under single-component failures, if any—the framework ensures a reliable and efficient power transmission network. This holistic approach enhances fault tolerance and system resilience, providing a robust solution for optimizing the performance of the Borssele I OWF. The N-1 contingency analysis is then performed to identify critical cables, ensuring that single cable failures do not lead to turbine disconnections. The simulation is implemented using Python, with visualization techniques to represent the wind farm's network structure. Results highlight critical connections, optimize energy flow, and improve the reliability of the offshore wind farm against transmission failures.
