Frequency Multiplying Inverter by Cascaded H-Bridge for Wireless Power Transfer System

In response to the difficulty of achieving high-frequency and high-power inverters, the use of frequency multiplication is being considered. This paper describes an inverter using a new frequency multiplication technique based on cascaded H-bridge. The proposed circuit does not require a multi-core transformer used to obtain voltage fluctuation in a conventional circuit. We confirmed that frequency multiplication was performed as expected using a prototype consisting of three SiC MOSFET Hbridge inverters and verified the efficiency characteristics of the proposed circuit. Experimental results show that while the efficiency of the proposed inverter is lower compared to single inverter, the efficiency gap narrows as the frequency increases. This indicates that at high frequencies, the benefits of highfrequency operation without high-performance devices outweigh the efficiency loss from the additional devices.
