Single-Phase Quadratic-Based Common-Ground Boost Inverter

This manuscript presents a new quadratic-based boost single-phase single-stage inverter with a shared ground between the source and load. The quadratic input scheme enables the proposed inverter to achieve high voltage gain. The proposed inverter utilizes continuous and discontinuous conduction modes (CCM and DCM) to boost voltage. The shared ground eliminates the common-mode leakage current. The input inductor in the proposed topology mitigates input current ripple. This topology design employs two-line frequency switches and three high-frequency switches. The line frequency switches reduce the switching losses, while only one of the high-frequency switches operates across both positive and negative half cycles. The other two high-frequency switches alternate between positive and negative cycles, effectively minimizing conduction losses. The proposed inverter also supports reactive power flow and uses fewer circuit components, optimizing cost and design. Detailed descriptions of the operational states and control signals, and explanations of experimental findings from a 400 W prototype are provided.
