A Novel Algorithm for Finite Control Set Motion Predictive Control of PMSM

This paper proposes a novel Finite Control Set Motion Predictive Control (FCS-MPC) algorithm for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drives that is applicable both to Surface-Mounted PMSMs (SPMSMs) and to Interior PMSMs (IPMSMs). The key innovation lies in deriving a closed-form solution of the motor’s mathematical model within the MPC framework. By leveraging the closed-form representation, the proposed method eliminates the need for iterative optimization, significantly reducing computational complexity while maintaining high accuracy and robustness. Furthermore, the algorithm inherently accounts for the non-linear dynamics of IPMSMs, including magnetic saturation and cross-coupling effects. The results obtained by means of accurate simulations fully validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, demonstrating superior performance in terms of torque ripple reduction, computational efficiency, and robustness to parameter variations compared to state-of-the-art methods.
