Wide Gap Simultaneous Wireless Power and Data Bidirectional Transfer System Based on Integrated Coupler for Smart Grid Applications

A wide air gap simultaneous wireless power and data bidirectional transfer (SWPDBT) system architecture based on integrated coupler for post insulator applications of smart grids is proposed. In the system, the integrated coupler is shared by the power channel and the data channel, the need for an additional data coil is eliminated. The signal parallel injection method is adopted to transfer power and data simultaneously, the data sending and receiving is realized. To improve the utilization efficiency of the data frequency band and achieve a higher transmission rate, amplitude shift keying (ASK) modulation is employed in the system. During demodulation, filters are used to remove low-frequency power signals. The required information is obtained through amplification and noncoherent demodulation to ensure the clarity and accuracy of the data transmission signal. A three-stage wide-gap SWPDBT system is analyzed and designed. Finally, an experimental prototype of the system is built, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified, the maximum DC-DC power efficiency could reach 86.5%, and the bidirectional data rate is 400kbps.
