A Trigger Circuit for the Reversely Switched Dynistor without a Magnetic Switch

Reversely switched dynistor (RSD) is a solid-state semiconductor switch with very high critical switched current rising rate and peak forward current. As a two-terminal switch, the RSD is triggered by the reverse pre-charge current. In this study, a trigger circuit for the RSD that does not rely on a magnetic switch is proposed, addressing the problem that the magnetic switch in the traditional trigger circuits is difficult to be manufactured due to their large weight and volume and has high saturated inductance in high-voltage pulse power applications. In the experiments, a 3.5 μs reverse pre-charge current is generated when the main capacitor is charged to 1000 V, effectively eliminating the need for a 3.5 mVs magnetic switch. This trigger circuit not only demonstrates high switched efficiency but also features a simple topology, making it more convenient to utilize RSDs in high-voltage pulse power fields.
