Design and Control of a flexible Onboard Charger for Electric Vehicles with FOPI-Controlled Power Converters

The operation of grid incorporated solar-PV system for the electric vehicles (EVs) is highly relied on precise operation of various power converters. In this current presents a novel multipurpose flexible onboard charger (OBC) for EVs while operating power converter with Fractional order PI controllers (FOPI). To enhance the reliability of overall performance of the OBC the grid integrated PV module augmented with energy storage elements such as high-voltage and low-voltage batteries (HVB & LVB). An active power decoupling (APD) circuit is modelled to reduce semiconductor switches and switching losses. This can minimize the required DC-link capacitance and enhance efficiency. For well control and operate the power converters FOPI controller developed in this current work. The feature of this proposed OBC is that it is capable to produce significant power from the solar roof while simultaneously charging both HVB and LVB batteries. The proposed FOPI controller regulates the DC link voltage at constant value without any ripples. To assess the OBC performance simulation study conducted on four ideal modes: grid-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-grid, high-voltage battery to low-voltage battery (H2L), and high-voltage battery + photovoltaic to low-voltage battery (HP2L). For all these modes, the proposed FOPI-based power converters for OBC in EV applications provide satisfactory output results.
