Design and Analysis of Optical Point Sensors, Quasi-Distributed, and Distributed Optical Fiber Sensors

This paper present simulation based study on optical fiber sensing technologies, study focusing on point sensor, quasi-distributed sensor, and distributed sensor configurations. The study begins with design and simulation of a Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) based point sensor using OptiSystem 22, analyzing its spectral response to temperature variations. Subsequently, a quasi –distributed sensing system designed using five spatially positioned FBG sensors in designed to enable multi-point monitoring. Finally, distributed optical fiber sensors (DOFS) based on Raman, Brillouin, and Rayleigh scattering mechanisms are explored for their capacity to provide continuous parameter measurement along the fiber length. Simulation result of single uniform FBG, and a quasi-distributed optical fiber sensor system response to temperature variations. Through the study of the reflection and transmission spectrums, it has been proved that optical fibers can be used as precise temperature sensors. The faster progress of the optical fiber sensing technologies has increased the interest toward both quasi-distributed and distributed sensing systems for real-time monitoring and data collection over a wide area. The results of this simulation will help the design and implementation of temperature monitoring optical fiber sensor networks
