Solar Powered Grid Integrated EV Charging Module for Smart City- A Case Study

In the transportation sector, battery-powered electric vehicles, or EVs, are being used as an alternative to internal combustion engine vehicles due to the fluctuating demands for electricity and the growing awareness of the need to protect the environment from global warming and the depletion of nonrenewable natural resources. However, charging these EVs with traditional fossil fuels is not structurally or economically viable. In this proposed work an efficient solar-powered Electric Vehicle (EV) charging module is designed for the evolving landscape of smart cities. The primary objective of this article is to develop a scalable and efficient EV charging solution powered by solar energy. By using the abundant sunlight available in urban environments, we aim to create a sustainable charging infrastructure that promotes the adoption of electric vehicles and reduces dependence on fossil fuels in India. Here we are doing the implementation of the model using MATLAB/SIMULINK and obtaining the results of the different parameters used such as battery voltage, State of Charge (SoC) of the battery, grid voltage, PV array current and voltage characteristics. Furthermore, the outcome of this project would establish a foundation for future EV charging systems which are more efficient, secure, and convenient for users. Finally, this proposed solution is expected to be beneficial for a large variety of the EV users, policy makers and different agencies towards a sustainable mobility solution in a smart city infrastructure.
