Bumpless Transfer Switching Model Predictive Control for Switched Linear Systems with Average Dwell Time

This paper is concerned with the bumpless transfer control for a class of discrete-time switched systems with average dwell time. An optimization approach namely bumpless transfer switching model predictive control (BT-sMPC) is proposed, which optimizes the stabilization and bumpless transfer performance, simultaneously in the prediction horizon. By establishing a step-by-step feedback control law, the stability of the switched system is theoretically guaranteed via multiple Lyapunov functions. In addition, the control synthesis problem is formulated as a “worst-case” optimization over comprehensive objectives to enhance computational efficiency. Compared with existing switching MPC methods, the control bumps can be significantly reduced by the proposed approach, and simulation studies are provided to demonstrate the superiority of BT-sMPC on control performance.
