High-Performance IPMSM Servo Drive Using STSM Speed Control and Iterative MTPA Current Control

The operation of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (IPMSMs) at base-speed produces stator current amplitudes, increasing temperature and accelerated parameter mismatch. This paper presents the Newton-Raphson iteration method for solving the Maximum Torque Per Ampere (MTPA) equation while enhancing computational robustness against motor parameter uncertainties. Subsequently, the super-twisting sliding mode (STSM) control is integrated into the speed regulation to improve dynamic stability during transient load disturbances and operating condition shifts. Extensive simulations are conducted to validate the proposed control scheme, demonstrating superior torque tracking accuracy and rapid convergence in scenarios involving parameter mismatches. The convergence of the proposed solution is guaranteed and its feasibility and performance are demonstrated through simulation.
