Optimal PV Array Reconfiguration for Maximum Power Harvest Using Levy Arithmetic Algorithm

Partial shading in Photovoltaic (PV) arrays leads to mismatch losses, causing variations in electrical output between shaded and unshaded cells. This reduces overall efficiency and decreases total power generation. A novel approach like the Levy Arithmetic Algorithm (LAA) reconfiguration method is the proposed solution to extract the maximum PV power. Using MATLAB/Simulink for a 9×9 PV array while subjecting it to four usual shading scenarios which are SW (Short-Wide), LW (Long-Wide), SN (Short-Narrow), and LN (Long-Narrow). The results obtained are compared with the conventional methods like Total-Cross-Tied (TCT) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) under various shading conditions. The adaptive method provides an efficient and commercial solution to maximize PV array performance when partial shading occurs.
