Current Stress Optimization of a Bidirectional Active Bridge Converter Based on Virtual Power Control

To mitigate current stress in dual-active-bridge (DAB) DC-DC converters, enhance power conversion efficiency, significantly improve dynamic performance, this paper presents a novel methodology for optimizing current stress through virtual power control, extending the conventional dual-phase-shift (DPS) control strategy. By constructing a virtual power model (VPC) of the converter's output voltage and integrating current stress optimization algorithms, the proposed methodology not only improves overall efficiency, but also significantly enhances the converter's dynamic response to sudden load variations and input voltage disturbances. Moreover, the method extremely great improves the startup characteristics of the converter, enabling the output voltage to reach the reference value directly with minimal overshoot. A simulation model of the DAB DC-DC converter is developed using PSIM software. Comparative simulations are performed against the traditional single-phase-shift (SPS) control and conventional DPS-based current stress optimization strategies. The results validate the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed control method.
