The experimental study of the Buck-Boost converter developed using Arduino Nano and the Matlab Simulink

This paper introduces an educational platform used for analysis of buck-boost converters, suitable for undergraduate (final year) electrical engineering training. The unidirectional topology of the proposed converter helps students to have a simplified understanding of the closed-loop output voltage control. An algorithm for automatic selection of the buck or boost operating mode of the converter is implemented in order to switch between the two operation modes. The method used compares a reference output voltage with the input voltage and depending on the returned value, it controls the transistors from the converter through the PWM (pulse width modulation) signals.
