Assessing and Evaluating IoT Platforms For Greenhouse Monitoring And Control System

The agriculture industry has been prevalent for a very long time, with new innovations and technologies being implemented every day. Farmers play a key part in ensuring the right steps and conditions are maintained to obtain the best crop yield. As cloud technology rapidly advances with innovations and applications, the farming and agriculture industry has also begun implementing these tools to help aid farmers. Here, we simulate a greenhouse environment to compare the different IOT platforms ThingsSpeak, Virtuino IOT and Blynk on parameters like real-time applications, latency delays, ease of use and list the advantages and disadvantages of the platforms. The greenhouse was built to include multiple sensors, LCD display, DC fan, water valve, lights, all connected to a NodeMCU, and connected to the internet using the inbuilt ESP8266 module. The entire system is configured to automate different processes, and present the readings to the user via an interface in the Blynk app and Virtuino app.
