Design and Assessment of Comb Jamming Signals With Reduced PAPR

Comb jamming outperforms conventional barrage jamming in terms of energy and spectral efficiency. However, reducing the peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) of comb jamming signals remains a challenging issue. This paper focuses on synthesizing low-PAPR comb jamming signals to enhance the power amplifier efficiency and alleviate nonlinear effects. An optimization problem is formulated under a constraint on the amplitudes of the subcarriers to achieve low PAPR while maintaining the jamming-to-signal ratio. To address the resultant nonconvex problem, three iterative algorithms, which are based on majorization-minimization, alternating direction method of multipliers, and cyclic methodology, are proposed. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms exhibit fast convergence. Moreover, with the amplitudes optimized by the proposed algorithms, the PAPR of the comb jamming signals is significantly reduced and the distortion of the signals passing through the power amplifier is mitigated.
