A Resonant-Frequency-Based Dynamic Front-End Monitoring Strategy for Series-Series-Compensated Inductive Power Transfer Systems without Communication

Front-end monitoring of coupling and load conditions is vital for next-generation inductive power transfer (IPT) systems, especially with the shift to new control paradigms. Existing monitoring schemes often face challenges such as non-resonant frequency identification, low accuracy, extensive data measurement requirements, and limited operating conditions. To tackle these issues, this paper proposes a resonant-frequency-based dynamic front-end monitoring strategy for typical series-series (SS)-compensated IPT systems. This method is grounded in the small-signal model of the SS-compensated IPT system, allowing for the estimation of mutual inductance and load conditions based solely on the dynamic responses of the transmitter-side current, without requiring communication feedback from the receiver. A key advantage of this strategy is its ability to accurately and rapidly determine mutual inductance and load conditions at resonant frequency during the initial soft starting phase. Both simulation and experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed monitoring strategy compared to conventional non-resonant frequency-based steady-state methods.
