Microwave Photonic Multiformat Jamming Signal Generation System

A microwave photonic multiformat jamming signal generation system is proposed and demonstrated. The proposed system demonstrates multifunctional deception jamming capabilities, including range, velocity, azimuth, and 1-D or 2-D multiple false targets. A photonic precise frequency controlling module is introduced to achieve the range and velocity deception jamming. The precise frequency-shifting capability of hertz level enables the jamming in the azimuth dimension with the inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) imaging. The bidirectional frequency-shifting capability enables the preceded or delayed spatial positioning of false targets across the range dimension. Meanwhile, a photonic frequency replication module and a photonic temporal sampling module are introduced to generate a series of false targets. The photonic precise frequency controlling module is composed of two cascaded acousto-optic modulators (AOMs). The photonic multiple frequency replication module is achieved by applying a single-tone cosine signal to a phase modulator (PM). The photonic temporal sampling module is achieved by applying a periodic rectangular pulse signal to a Mach–Zehnder modulator (MZM). The simultaneous frequency shifting and temporal sampling based on AOMs is also used to further improve the system latency. In this way, the proposed scheme can realize dynamic reconfiguration of false-target intervals, quantities, and spatial positioning through coordinated control of multiple parameters. A proof-of-concept experiment is conducted. The range and velocity deception jamming are experimentally achieved, demonstrating the wide working frequency range covering C to Ka bands. The jamming with the ISAR imaging is experimentally verified, resulting in 42 false targets in both the range and azimuth dimensions. The system latency is as low as 68.3 ns.
