Measurement System for Long-Term Outdoor Testing of Research Scale Solar Cells

Testing the outdoor stability of research scale solar cells, particularly perovskite solar cells, is an important aspect of research and validation, as well as understanding the rate of degradation during a solar cell' lifecycle. However, typical lab tests are either simply a measure of solar cell efficiency or use artificial conditions. This testing inhibits the understanding of the degradation process in real-world conditions. The challenge this report delves into is performance measurement of perovskite solar cells in real-world conditions. This work demonstrates the design and testing of a system that has the capability to perform long-term outdoor stability testing for lab scale perovskite solar test cells. By improving the access to outdoor stability data, especially at the scale of typical lab scale devices (25mm x 25mm substrates), this work will help to shorten the feedback loop between cell fabrication and outdoor testing.
