Improving Transparency and Accessibility in the Academic Publication Process on EBSI Network

Lack of transparency, centralisation, restricted access and excessive fees are some of the biggest challenges currently facing academic publishing. In this paper, we propose a new method for storing and tracking peer review process data based on the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI) DLT solution. We use EBSI, a permissioned blockchain operated by European institutions, to anchor submission and review metadata, ensuring an immutable record of academic contributions in the peerreview process. Our approach integrates the blockchain component into a standard conference management system to evaluate feasibility, performance and user acceptance under real-world conditions.
