PDMS-Based Liquid-Core Fiber Fluorescent Probe for Dual-Functional Temperature and Pressure Measurement

This study develops a polydimethylsiloxane-based liquid-core fiber fluorescent probe integrating CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) to achieve synchronous temperature-pressure detection. The probe architecture features a PDMS tube containing CdSe/ZnS QD solution, with one sealed end and a fiber-connected end for excitation light delivery and fluorescence signal acquisition. Temperature sensing is achieved through QD bandgap-dependent wavelength shifts and non-radiative recombination-induced intensity attenuation, while pressure detection utilizes strain-induced aggregation-mediated fluorescence quenching. Experimental validation confirmed that the probe maintained good accuracy in both temperature and pressure measurement, along with excellent repeatability and batch-to-batch consistency. Given its technical advantages, including simple fabrication, precise sensing performance, and wearable compatibility, this probe demonstrates significant potential for biomedical monitoring and smart wearable applications.
