An Absorptive Energy Selective Surface With Self-Adaptive Protection and Time-Domain Dynamic Modulation Functions

This letter presents a multifunctional absorptive energy selective surface (AESS) capable of electromagnetic stealth, adaptive electromagnetic protection, and radar jamming. A triple-layer structure incorporating nonlinear diodes enables adaptive switching between transmission and shielding states, while a resistive surface combining spiral resonators and resistive elements provides out-of-band absorption. By applying single-frequency or hybrid-frequency interrupted sampling modulation to the AESS, time-domain manipulation of reflected signals generates diverse false target distributions, thereby disrupting radar detection. The design is validated through full-wave simulations and experimental measurements. The proposed AESS enables simultaneous stealth, protection, and active jamming, significantly expanding practical applications in complex electromagnetic environments requiring multifunctional adaptability.
