Autonomously Reconfigurable Telemetry and Monitoring System for CubeSats

Satellite computing systems comprise microcontrollers, Central Processing Units (CPUs), hardware accelerators, and Field Programmable Gated Arrays (FPGAs), which execute either mission applications or monitoring and controlling processes. Among the above tasks, those that include monitoring and telemetry functions play a key role in the system’s stability and satellite’s lifespan. Aiming at a more stable satellite environment, this paper introduces an autonomous reconfiguration scheme for the satellite heterogeneous computing system that improves the monitoring and telemetry tasks. The proposed approach minimizes the ground station intervention and improves the system resources utilization. The complete organization design is currently under development for the ERMIS3 CubeSat, part of the Greek State CubeSat project.
