An Extended Voltage Gain Three-Level DC/DC Bidirectional Converter in an Electric Vehicle Traction System

Electric vehicle transportation is a constantly advancing technology. In electric vehicles, battery charging is a critical necessity. The demand for DC/DC bidirectional converters in electric vehicle electrical systems is significantly higher than that for DC/DC unidirectional converters. Electric vehicles necessitate an increased voltage gain in DC/DC converters to coordinate the voltage levels of the battery and DC-link. This article proposes an extended voltage gain DC/DC three-level bidirectional converter. This proposed DC/DC extended voltage gain converter provides substantial voltage gain in two directions. This converter structure is simple, comprising a fair total of 13 components. This converter minimizes voltage stress on switches in both directions. The charging and discharging procedure of a lithium-ion battery (48V, 75Ah) occurs via the constant voltage mode. The proposed extended voltage gain non-isolated DC/DC bidirectional converter is validated with MATLAB simulation results for 2000W power in both directions. The proposed extended voltage gain non-isolated DC/DC bidirectional converter is validated with OPAL-RT (OP5700) results for 2000W power in both directions.
