Cybersecurity Mesh Architecture for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

Traditional centralized and perimeter-based cyber-security frameworks are inadequate for securing electric vehicle charging infrastructure due to its inherent characteristics being distributed, interconnected, dynamic, and critical in nature, and often lead to the creation of security silos. The large attack surface of the charging infrastructure, the numerous potential attack vectors, and the severe consequences of cyberattacks make it an attractive target for threat actors. This paper presents a shared responsibility model underpinned by the cyber security mesh architecture framework, leveraging decentralized security controls, distributed identity management, and federated threat intelligence to eliminate security silos. By enabling context-aware, adaptive, and collaborative cybersecurity, this approach ensures resilient, scalable, and policy-driven protection tailored to the unique threat landscape of the electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
