Design of Active Suspension LQGI Control of a Half Car Vehicle Model

This paper focuses on the design of a controller for vehicle with active suspension represented by a half car model, with aim to increase the crew comfort. The dynamics of the system is described by state-space equations, which are then used for the synthesis of the LQGI controller. Subsequently a PSO structure for fine tuning of the controller is created. The performance of the proposed controller is verified by MATLAB-Adams co-simulation. For the evaluation of the achieved results, the criteria for ride safety and comfort of car suspension according to ISO 8608 have been used. This work demonstrates a significant improvement in ride comfort and safety when using the proposed active suspension control.
