Semi-Analytical Calculation Method for Eddy Current and Electromagnetic Force in Inductors of PPS System

The pulse inductor is indispensable to all pulsed power supplies (PPSs) for electromagnetic launch (EML). The electromagnetic force inside the pulse inductor affects the safe operation of the PPS system. Since the current generated by the PPS is a transient current, eddy current calculation is the premise of the electromagnetic force analysis. At present, the solution of eddy current in the pulse inductor is usually carried out by simulation software, but the calculation speed is too slow for large-scale optimization. This article proposed a semi-analytical method that can realize the fast calculation of the eddy current in the axisymmetric inductor. The method is based on the discretization and normalization of the coils. Furthermore, the electromagnetic force density endured by the inductor coil can be calculated. The comparison with the simulation verifies the accuracy and rapidity of the proposed method.
