Toward Scalable Quantum Sensors: Devices and Technologies Enabling the Next Generation of Precision Measurement

Quantum sensing has rapidly become one of the most promising frontiers in modern measurement science, leveraging quantum mechanical principles to detect physical quantities with sensitivities that can far exceed classical sensor performance. Among the various quantum platforms under investigation, nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in diamond have emerged as particularly compelling due to their stability, room temperature operation, and compatibility with microelectronics and photonic integration. This article explores the current landscape of scalable quantum sensing, with particular attention to the technological and device-level innovations required to transition laboratory-based systems into commercially viable platforms. We focus in particular on the interface electronics and optical and electronic integration strategies that are enabling scalable chip-level implementations of quantum sensors.
