The influence of on-fiber metasurface misalignment on the performance of optical mode separation

The increasing role of metasurfaces (MSs) in applications is undoubted. One of these applications is the spatial separation of optical angular momentum (OAM) modes to be processed separately afterwards. While several articles deal with designing and fabricating MSs for this task, there is little emphasis on the inherent fabrication misalignment between the MSs and the core of the optical fiber and its influence on the overall performance of the device obtained. In this work, we will present initial simulation results showing the need to consider this effect and analyze the alignment techniques that can mitigate its impact, thereby enhancing the practical application of metasurfaces in optical engineering and photonics
