Liquid Crystal on Silicon Application Challenges in WSS

Liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) based wavelength selective switch (WSS) has enabled several features including flexible grid, channel bandwidth shaping, signal switching and broadcasting. However, many challenges remain when using the LCoS in WSS. In this paper, we will discuss some of them including: static crosstalk, transient crosstalk during switching, reflectivity and switching speed improvement, PDL reduction, digital flicker, etc.
