Joint Route Planning for Submarine Optical and Power Cables

We propose a methodology for the joint route planning of submarine optical and power transmission cables. The methodology takes as input a grid matrix of vectors representing seabed characteristics between two shores, where each entry corresponds to a specific point/node. A multi-criteria approach is employed, integrating spectral co-clustering to group nodes with similar properties into representative clusters. Subsequently, a multi-objective route selection process identifies well-suited candidate cable routes. In the final step, the methodology optimizes the selection of the landing points, determining a pair of routes for the optical and power subsea cables. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency and applicability of the proposed approach across various scenarios, considering multiple parameters.
