Adaptive Control Design for Dual EV Charging Using Triple Active Bridge (TAB) Converter

This paper explores a control scheme for efficient and simultaneous fast charging of two electric vehicles (EVs) with varying battery capacities using a Triple Active Bridge (TAB) DC-DC converter. A Comprehensive Phase-Shift (CPS) modulation strategy is employed, leveraging the control of all five phase-shift ratios to regulate power flow effectively. To meet the Constant Current-Constant Voltage (CCCV) charging profiles of both EVs, an Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO) algorithm is introduced, enhancing the conventional PSO by adaptively updating the number of particles and their weights. MA $T$LAB/Simulink-based simulations reveal that APSO achieves efficient power distribution, significantly reduces RMS currents, and minimizes switching and conduction losses. The detailed loss profiling shows that APSO reduces total system losses to 6.8 kW (5.6% of power transfer) compared to 9.5 kW (6.7%) for PSO, resulting in an overall efficiency improvement. These results highlight the APSO scheme's ability to mitigate circulating power, reduce thermal stress, and enhance reliability, making it a robust control strategy for TAB converters in dual EV fast-charging applications.
