Power Decoupling Control for Grid-Forming Battery Energy Storage System in Wind Farm

Grid-forming (GFM) battery energy storage systems (BESSs) offer a promising solution for improving the dynamic performance and robustness of wind power generation systems. Unfortunately, the inherent coupling between active and reactive power in GFM control degrades the system controllability, making accurate power regulation challenging. This paper systematically investigates the power coupling issue of GFM-BESS in wind farms and proposes a power decoupling control strategy based on feedback linearization. First, a transient power response model is developed to characterize the power coupling phenomenon. Based on this model, a novel power decoupling control strategy is proposed to adjust the voltage vector reference of the GFM. Then, a small-signal model of the system is established to provide a frequency-domain perspective for analyzing power decoupling dynamics and verifying the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy. Finally, the proposed scheme is validated through MATLAB/Simulink and hardware-in-the-loop time-domain simulations.
