The Transmission Mechanism of Sound Waves Inside a Transformer

As a large electrical equipment, the transformer plays a significant role in the power grid. The main form of its failure is partial discharge. Over the past few decades, many methods for partial discharge detection have been developed, but the detection results have not been satisfactory. Therefore, this paper deeply studies the transmission mechanism of the acoustic wave generated by partial discharge in the transformer, including the attenuation law of the acoustic wave on the inner wall of the transformer in time and space, as well as the refraction and reflection process of the acoustic wave inside the transformer. By analyzing and discussing the basic theory of partial discharge, the concept of partial discharge is clarified, which is a non-penetrating discharge phenomenon occurring in insulating media under strong electric fields. The causes of partial discharge are obtained, and the finite element method is used for simulation experiments to analyze the transmission mechanism of the acoustic wave generated by partial discharge in the transformer.
