Risk assessment and Decision-Making for UAS Operations Counting Wind and Weather Hazards

This paper is devoted to the decision-making and risk assessment when UAS flight and operations. The analysis of the methodologies for risk assessment when unmanned aircraft system (UAS) operations are made. The importance of counting the information about weather-related hazards during the risk assessment for UAS operations and final decision-making is discussed and demonstrated. The simulation of wind velocity influences the value of critical area when risk assessment according to the SORA approach is shown and analyzed. The simulation is done on the base of the proposed modified model for critical area calculation. An improved diagram for risk assessment and decision-making that takes into account the weather-related hazards for particular operations performed by UAS as a Cyber-Physical-Human system has been developed and discussed. The novelty of the proposed approach is in the model for critical area calculation taking into account the wind influence onto safety of UAS flight. The approach can be practically used when UAS mission planning and flight operation.
