Modeling of Instrumentation and Control Systems with Online Verification for Small Modular Reactors

The paper focuses on the development and analysis of models for digital Instrumentation and Control (I&C) systems in Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) with integrated online verification procedures. It explores the challenges posed by the limited space for equipment in SMRs and the need to enhance operational safety by minimizing reactor downtime. The study introduces a multi-fragment model for SMR I&C systems that incorporates online verification, enabling the timely detection and correction of software faults without shutting down the entire system. The models are evaluated based on their availability function, with comparisons made between scenarios with and without successful fault remediation. The research demonstrates that online verification can significantly improve system availability, especially under conditions of high verification success rates. The findings contribute to optimizing the operational procedures of SMRs, ultimately reducing the cost of electricity generation by enhancing the efficiency and reliability of digital I&C systems.
