Improved Iterative Convex Algorithm for Phase-Only Polarization Pattern Synthesis Based on Element Grouping

To achieve the phase-only polarization pattern synthesis, this letter applies iterative convex optimization to address the nonconvex constant modulus constraint. By maximizing an objective function based on the power of the copolarization (COP) electric field, the process of the weight satisfying the constraint is accelerated. In addition, according to the COP state, different element grouping strategies are introduced to decrease the variable dimension, thus reducing the optimization time. Simulations on a 16 × 16 array indicate that the proposed method effectively synthesizes polarization patterns satisfying the restriction of sidelobe level and cross-polarization level and the constant modulus constraint. The acceleration performance of element grouping is valid under multiple COP states. For horizontal/vertical polarization, the running time after element grouping can be reduced by 45.99% and 35.19%, respectively, while the COP power loss is below 0.7%.
