IEEE Standard for Fail-Safe Design of Autonomous and Semi-Autonomous Systems: Putting Principles Into Practice

Previous Articles in the Standards Column of the Reliability Magazine have featured standards developed by working groups (WGs) of the Reliability Society Standards Committee (RS-SC) on behalf of the IEEE Reliability Society. As indicated in several of these articles, the Reliability Society portfolio of standards includes some that are developed in collaboration with one or more IEEE Organizational Units (OUs), or other Standard Development Organizations (SDO) external to the IEEE. This article introduces one such standard in the portfolio: IEEE 7009-2024, the IEEE Standard for Fail-Safe Design of Autonomous and Semi-Autonomous Systems.
